A Welcome from Geoff and Julia

Dear Friends,

The Education Program at a Noise Within was designed to be a flexible one. No two students are the same and every class has different needs, so why would we offer the same thing to each of our education partners? Instead, ANW adapts to the needs of each class, tailoring our programs in terms of length, content, and location. We also offer flexible scholarships that can be utilized on tickets, transportation, and/or program fees – whatever our partners need from us to help get this critical arts education to their students.

Well, as we all know, this past year has presented remarkable obstacles for each of us, forcing us to adapt in ways we never could have imagined. The challenges are heightened, but our outlook has remained the same: how can we best serve students and teachers, wherever they may be? This was the question that inspired us early on in the pandemic, as we sought new ways to engage students in a digital world (like our online, interactive five-week summer camp). It is the same question that drives us today as we produce virtual Student Matinees this spring, a stronger distance-learning curriculum moving forward, and a program that is ready to support and uplift students when the pandemic is over.

When we look at the challenges of the past year, the thing that truly stands out to us is the resiliency, innovation, and leadership of educators. When everything around them was closing, digital classrooms were opening. Teachers had no warning time and extremely limited resources, yet they rose to the occasion, adapting over and over again in spectacular, inspiring ways. What educators did for our community last year – what they do every year – can only be described as “heroic”; that’s why we’ve chosen to honor them at this year’s virtual gala. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate them and raise both awareness and much-needed funding for the Education Program at A Noise Within.

Head over to our tickets page for your attendance options. While we encourage you to purchase tickets or a table for the event to support ANW Edu, all gala content will be free and accessible to everyone after the livestream.

Much like last year, the event will be as fun and interactive as possible. We’re moving closer and closer to safe, live events again, but we’re all out of practice on how to celebrate – so take ANW’s virtual gala as your opportunity to practice! Dust off those “going out” clothes you haven’t worn in a while and have a photoshoot in your living room! Decorate your dining table and pretend you are onstage at A Noise Within! Play some music, mix up a drink, and enjoy a delicious catered meal from local chef Onil Chibás!

This event is very special to us: it’s our chance to raise over $170,000 for our Education Program – the heart of A Noise Within. Help us get there and have some fun along the way. Looking forward to seeing you online!

At our gala this year, we will be honoring Margaret Sedenquist. Margaret was our Board Vice President for the past few years and before that a devoted Board member and ANW advocate. Her intelligence, spirit, and wicked sense of humor could set an entire room on fire. Margaret was forever young, from her sharp intellectual curiosity to her trend-setting green hair streak. Truly one of a kind.Celebrate Margaret’s contributions and impact in our community, especially the arts. If you would like to make a donation in her honor, please use the button below and be sure to include “Margaret Sedenquist” in the “In Honor of” field!
