Ellen Mandel

WITH A NOISE WITHIN:

2019-2020 Season: Composer, The Winter’s Tale

ELLEN MANDEL has written music for over eighty plays at theaters including the Antaeus (Scenie with Jeff Gardner, music for Top Girls) and Actor’s Co-op, plus in NYC: Phoenix, Mint, Jean Cocteau Rep (Resident Composer), Pearl, and many regionals, and received many best music nominations for her theater work. She has composed songs to poems by E.E. Cummings, Seamus Heaney, W.B. Yeats, Charlotte Mew, and others, performed at concerts across the USA and in Europe, and is working on a Thomas Hardy song cycle.  Mandel’s theater music is “remarkable for consistent invention, compositional resource, and apt theatricality,” Village Voice; and her songs are “ardent, spiky, and refreshingly organic,” NY Times. Dizzy Gillespie called Ellen a “wonderful musician.”  ellenmandel.com
