Summer with Shakespeare was a success!

By A Noise Within
July 27, 2017

Our Summer with Shakespeare program at a Noise Within seeks to educate young minds and help them to develop an understanding and appreciation for Shakespeare and the performing arts.

During camp, students work on movement, stage combat, voice, acting, design and more.

Our camp directors and instructors aim to educate by putting the focus on the process of the art, rather than just the result of a final performance. With this goal in mind, kids have room to grow and are able to develop their creative skills and interests.

One parent expresses her surprise and delight at how her daughter was affected by Summer with Shakespeare,

“My daughter gained skills she never knew she had an interest in and is really starting to come out of her shell!”

Designed to challenge young artists to be scholars and performers, this program enhances acting and public speaking skills, builds self-confidence, and offers invaluable theatre experience.

Camp Instructor McKenna Kerrigan reflects on why she loves Summer with Shakespeare and what makes it unique:

“Not only do they put on a play together, but they all become directors, designers, and big thinkers about how to make theatre.”

Camp culminates in full-staged Shakespearean productions put on by our campers. The performances are always outstanding, and this summer was no exception. The featured productions this year were A Midsummer Night’s Dream and As You Like It.

One parent took note of the effort and care that goes into the final performances and explains how impressed she was by the campers.

“In the final performances you see kids who are really making choices about what they are doing on stage and thinking about their characters and the situations they find themselves in.”

One camper shares her excitement about her success in the final performances.

“I never thought I could memorize my lines in a play without forgetting them. I was super happy when I did it.”

Everyone here at ANW loves getting to see the campers improve over the course of the summer and we look forward to the performances every year. Thank you to all the students and parents who participated this summer. We already can’t wait for next year!

The fun doesn’t stop with summer; a Noise Within also offers fall classes! Keep those acting and production skills sharp with Saturday, after school, or weekday (for home school students) classes. Learn more about our other Youth Acting Classes.
