Field Trips

Challenge. Engage. Inspire.

Each season, A Noise Within opens its doors to welcome over 18,000 K-12 and University student audience members from across Southern California. Over the past thirty-five years, students, teachers, and chaperones have traveled from as far as Long Beach, Victorville, Oxnard and elsewhere to experience the magic of a live performance at A Noise Within – bridging the gap between stage and classroom.

SCHOOL DAY FIELD TRIPS

At our school day Student Matinee series for Grades 3 - 12, your students will enjoy a full-length production, presented by the same professional cast as our regular performances, and a lively post-show Q&A that directly engages students with the artists. You will also be provided with a comprehensive educational study guide, full of pre-show and post-show classroom activities. After the performance, enjoy a picnic lunch on our front lawn or deepen your students’ learning by booking a post-show workshop! Tickets are $20/student. One free chaperone ticket will be provided for every 10 student tickets purchased.

How do I add a pre-show or post-show workshop?

Pre-show and post-show workshops can be added to your order in the reservation form. Workshops are priced as $360 for up to 40 students, $500 for up to 70 students, and $575 for up to 100 students. Pre-show workshops occur from 9:00am - 10:00am, while post-show workshops occur after a lunch break from approximately 2:00pm - 3:00pm depending on the show run time.

What does a pre-show or post-show workshop involve?

A pre-show or post-show workshop runs for 60 minutes and is taught by a professional A Noise Within Teaching Artist. Pending availability, post-show workshops are often taught by actors from the show the students just enjoyed! Workshop curriculums are tailored to each show and emphasize English Language Arts-style practical exercises that center around theme, character, and script exploration. Debate exercises and the creation of character maps are two examples of common core activities within a pre-show or post-show workshop at A Noise Within.

How do I get my students to the theatre?

Our 18,000 annual student visitors travel to us by school bus, by car, by metro, or sometimes even on foot! All options are great options. We provide bus driver instructions one month before your visit that detail drop-off and pick-up points as well as bus parking. If you are considering the metro, A Noise Within is conveniently located within steps of the Metro A Line Sierra Madre Villa station.

How do I prepare my students on theatre etiquette?

At A Noise Within, we acknowledge that members of our student audiences may be with us experiencing live theater for the first time. That makes us very happy! We take pride in educating our student attendees on proper theatre etiquette upon their arrival to the theatre. Before your field trip, we encourage you to take time to review the following document with your students: Theatre Etiquette for Student Matinees.
