Luis Valdez's ACTOS
Classic Chicanx plays for our political moment
Friday, March 13 at 8:00pm
The remaining Noise Now performances through April have been canceled. We are working to reschedule our March and April Noise Now events for a later date. For more information, click here.
A Noise Within and the LA Phil join forces to celebrate the early agit-prop work of a Chicanx Theater giant. In 1965, Luis Valdez established El Teatro Campesino on the Delano Grape Strike picket lines of Cesar Chavez’s United Farmworkers Union. The company created “actos” or short commedia dell’arte-style sketches as a form of agit-prop theater, which they performed on farms, in churches and community halls, on the back of flatbed trucks, and anywhere the issues of Chicanx laborers needed to be expressed. Join A Noise Within and the LA Phil as they revisit Valdez’s early actos and the birth of the contemporary Chicanx Theatre Movement.
Titles will include:
- Las Dos Caras del patroncito
- Los Vendidos
- The Militants
- No Saca Nada de la Escuela
Performances will be in English and include some Spanish.
Running Time: TBD
