Gatsby Redux

An immersive, outdoor dance adaptation of The Great Gatsby

Saturday, April 18 at 5:00pm

Gatsby Redux is a site-specific event which takes the audience into Gatsby’s world of the Roaring ’20s with its wild nights, uninhibited parties, and clandestine romance.  Gatsby Redux was originally created for the Los Angeles Music Center event, Moves After Dark. Mixed eMotion Theatrix was selected to create work on Frank Gehry’s gorgeous Walt Disney Hall. Artistic Director/Choreographer, Janet Roston, was inspired by the Blue Ribbon Garden and the Keck Amphitheater to create choreography filled with love triangles, intimate dance, and waves of movement from a large ensemble. Mixed eMotion Theatrix is thrilled to present excerpts from this work on the grounds of A Noise Within.  Come be a part of Gatsby’s world! It’s the 1920s in 2020!

A limited number of complimentary tickets are held for all Noise Now events. Please contact Jonathan Muñoz-Proulx, Director of Cultural Programming, at jmunozproulx@anoisewithin.org to check availability for this event.

Mixed eMotion Theatrix (MeMT) combines music, contemporary dance, ethnic movement, opera, theater, and multi-media to create hybrid performance experiences in live theater. With leadership from Artistic Director, Janet Roston, it is dedicated to telling stories of the human condition through the use of folk tales, fairy tales, myths, classic literature, new histories and biographies. It is the goal of the company to create performances that generate wonderment, insight, and the rush of human motion and emotion.

Productions by MeMT include Anaïs Nin: Unbound, a hybrid production that includes vocals, dance, and projections to tell the story of famed diarist Anaïs Nin. The show was presented at the Avignon Festival, La Nouvelle Eve in Paris, and the Casablanca International Theatre Festival. Their community based storytelling/dance work, So Now You Know, just completed a California tour. The full length performance of Gatsby Redux will be presented at the Brand Library in Glendale on May 30th and Fullerton’s Muckenthaler Community Center on October 15th. Both sites have gorgeous vintage buildings that will enhance a glimpse into Gatsby’s world. Join us at these performances and be immersed in the ’20s! www.memtheatrix.com
