Scene From a Play

The Plays

From the Artistic Directors

If we were truly awake, fully conscious, completely alive would we know? How would we know? Are we moving toward a greater realization of our potential? Are we hearing and hearkening to the inner voice that leads us to a true calling? As A Noise Within moves closer to the next phase of its development-the attainment of a permanent home for the classics in Pasadena-some of these questions naturally surface. And what better place to explore both question and answer than through the great classics of world literature.

Therefore, welcome to A Noise Within's 2008-2009 Season of Awakenings! The principal players in each of these extraordinary tales struggle, sometimes in ecstasy, other times in horror, to awaken to their true natures. Hamlet, Lizzie and Starbuck, Oliver Twist, Kate and Petruchio, Mrs. Alving and Oswald, the Count and his Muse-all groping, perhaps haltingly, sometimes blindly, but always forward—each finally awakening to the crystalline light of full and living consciousness. Enjoy!
