We had a blast this year at Summer with Shakespeare at A Noise Within! This ever-growing program seeks to engage and educate young artists, while inspiring both an understanding and a passion for Shakespeare and the performing arts.

This summer we had a record 150 students who enjoy numerous classes including voice, movement, acting, stage combat, and design. Students were immersed in a whirlwind of unique activities – performing fun magic tricks one minute, swinging swords the next! With a focus on artistic process rather than the final production, students developed their skills in a comfortable environment, and were challenged as both scholars and artists. It was such a pleasure seeing these young minds blossom into young actors, while making lasting friendships along the way.

Not only do we at ANW love seeing the campers improve their craft; parents enjoy it, too! One parent shared:  “Thank you so much for providing a WONDERFUL camp experience for my daughter.  She came home the first day reciting Shakespeare and was excited to go everyday … she learned a lot about all aspects of Shakespeare!”

Camp goes out with a bang with full-staged productions where students showcased their expanding creativity, innovation, and their knowledge of Shakespearean text. These phenomenal productions celebrated the students’ achievements as both actors and designers. The sets were entirely painted by our crafty campers, and each student designed and constructed their own costume. This year our campers excelled in Macbeth and The Tempest, as well as in featured scenes from King Lear and Romeo and Juliet.

We’re going to miss this year’s Summer with Shakespeare family! Thank you to the parents, and all our young artists who we were able to see grow these past five weeks. We are already looking forward to next summer!
