Production Internships

Production Interns gain experience in their specific field of interest through one-on-one partnerships with the outstanding designers and creative artists working in the company. Production Interns are also a part of the changeover crew that facilitates our unique repertory schedule.

 Lighting Intern

Qualifications: A post undergraduate or graduate student who has a strong background in lighting design and electrics.  The position requires an ability to work at heights, A-frame ladders, and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. The ideal candidate will have a professional attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.

Responsibilities: This program is designed to provide real world experience and contacts to college students looking to begin their careers. Interns will work under supervision of a Master Electrician loading in, striking, and maintain the electrics. Interns will also have the opportunity to work with professional lighting designers and learn about designing for a professional repertory theatre. He or she will assist in the maintenance of lighting instruments and other equipment, be involved in all hang and focus calls, and will serve as light board operator for one show in the Fall 2017 season. Interns will also be involved in the electrics changeovers between productions.

Costume Intern

Qualifications: An undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in costume design and construction. Must have previous sewing experience. The ideal candidate should be eager to learn, responsible, and have good communication skills.

Responsibilities: This program is designed to provide real world experience and contacts to college students looking to begin their careers. Intern will work under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager and Designers and assist with the design and execution of three productions. He or she will strengthen skills by learning costume construction and alternation techniques. He or she will have the opportunity to work on both home and industrial equipment and may also be responsible for some craft-work, depending on production needs. Intern will also gain experience working with a professional repertory theatre company and assisting with costume changeovers.

Stage Management Intern

Qualifications: A post-undergraduate or graduate student who has a strong background in Stage Management and Deck Crew. Must have worked on three productions (college or professional) in the past two years. The ideal candidate should also have good organizational skills and must be able to work independently.

Responsibilities: This program is designed to provide real world experience and contacts to college students looking to begin their careers. Intern will be assigned to assist one of our repertory productions and will work alongside an AEA Stage Manager. As a member of the Stage Management team, intern will be required to attend every rehearsal of their assigned production. They will assist with prop tracking, giving line notes, and staying on book.  Intern will also be a member of the running crew for the show and may be assigned to perform the following duties: running props, shifting scenery, and assisting with costume quick changes. Intern will work with the Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager to maintain the integrity of the show.  EMC credit is available.

Properties Intern

Qualifications: A undergraduate or graduate student who has a strong background in props and/or scenic design. Must have knowledge of tools, painting, and basic sewing.  The ideal candidate must be eager to learn, responsible, and have good communication skills.

Responsibilities: This program is designed to provide real world experience and contacts to college students looking to begin their careers. Intern will work under the supervision of Professional Designers and the Production Manager. They will have the opportunity to work with designers to build or modify props for one of our productions. Intern will also be responsible for maintaining props throughout the season and assisting with repertory changeovers. Intern may be asked to assist with scenic notes, depending upon the needs of the production.
