SPEAKING SHAKESPEARE
Mondays, February 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5, 12, 19, 26, from 7-9pmSpeaking Shakespeare focuses on scansion and vocal delivery of the Bard's verse, and is an excellent preparation for entry into the world of Shakespearean acting. Taught by Hisa Takakua, Speaking Shakespeare, is also appropriate for teachers wishing to have insight into textual analysis in order to invigorate their educational methods.
Cost: $350, $150 for teachers
ACTING
SHAKESPEARE

Meets Mondays, 7-9:30pm
In Acting Shakespeare, students learn how to bring Shakespeare's characters to life on stage. This class builds on Speaking Shakespeare's foundation, and allows participants to incorporate physicalization of their character, and to spur a connection to key emotions that enliven their performance. Taught by resident artist, Deborah Strang, this course is appropriate for those who have taken basic verse scansion.
Cost: $160 for
one session - 4 weeks of classes
(5 weeks if the number of Mondays that month is 5)
Classes meet 7pm - 9:30pm Monday if 6 or fewer students enrolled
Classes meet 7pm - 10pm Monday if more than 6 students enrolled
STAGE COMBAT
Mondays, February 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5, 12, 19, 26, from 6-7pm
Taught by Ken Merckx, this course will cover safe and dynamic techniques in performing convincing hand-to-hand violence for the stage (i.e. slaps, punches, kicks, falls, rolls, strangles, etc.). Students will also be given instruction in introductory swordplay. Learn how to sling steel effectively for the theatrical productions; defend and attack and travel using classical movement.

Mondays, April 9, 16, 23, 30 from 6-9:30pm and Sunday, April 22, from 9am-4:30pm
The Single Play Intensive is an opportunity to conduct an intensive study of one play from Shakespeare's complete works. This course allows actors, theatre-lovers, and teachers to increase their breadth of knowledge through inquiry-based table readings and hands-on exercises in vocal delivery. Teachers must also attend two plays to fulfill LAUSD salary point requirements, one of which, for no extra charge, will be "Antony and Cleopatra" at A Noise Within.
Cost: $250, $150 for teachers
