Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott
Founders and Artistic Directors

Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott are Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors of A Noise Within. As Artistic Directors, they have produced close to one hundred productions and have directed or co-directed more than forty, including a tandem performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Other directorial credits include The Winter's Tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Othello, The Tempest, Coriolanus, Macbeth, Ubu Roi, Loot, A Flea in Her Ear, Mourning Becomes Electra, Great Expectations, Buried Child, Another Part of the Forest, Life is A Dream, Master Builder and The Price.

Under their leadership, A Noise Within has received 26 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards (Los Angeles's highest honor for theatrical achievement), including the "Polly Warfield Award for Excellence" and the "Margaret Harford Award for Distinguished Achievement". Most recently, the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle (LADCC) nominated A Noise Within's 2007 production of Beckett's Waiting for Godot for "Best Revival" and "Best Ensemble". The LADCC named the theatre's production of O'Neill's A Touch of the Poet "Best Revival" of 2006 and the LA Stage Alliance nominated Ubu Roi (by Alfred Jarry) for six Ovation Awards.

For four consecutive years, Mr. Elliott and Ms. Rodriguez-Elliott have conducted a workshop for the National Endowment for the Arts Journalism Institute in Theatre and Musical Theatre at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication.

Ms. Rodriguez-Elliott has extensive experience teaching theatre arts to students from middle school to college and teaches regularly as part of A Noise Within's educational programming. Ms. Rodriguez-Elliott has served on theatre panels for organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, and the LA Stage Alliance. In addition, she conducts lectures for institutions such as CalArts, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and schools throughout the California State University and University of California systems.

Mr. Elliott has performed major roles for some of the leading regional theatres in America, including The American Conservatory Theatre, South Coast Repertory, Arizona Theatre Company, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and California Shakespeare Festival. He has received three Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards, and more than a dozen other awards for acting. His Shakespearean roles include Iago in Othello, Theseus/Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Coriolanus, Richard in The Tragedy of King Richard III and the title role in Hamlet. He has had leading roles in classic plays by such authors as O'Neill, Miller, Ibsen, Rostand, Wilde and Tennessee Williams.

Mr. Elliott and Ms. Rodriguez-Elliott each hold a BFA from the University of Florida and an MFA from the American Conservatory Theatre.

Rick Ellingsen
Development Committee Chair

Rick Ellingsen has been a patron of A Noise Within for ten years. He joined the Board of Directors in June, 2006 and currently serves as Chair of the Development Committee. A Pasadena resident, Mr. Ellingsen is active in the community and also sits on the Board of Directors for Pasadena Jazz Institute.

Mr. Ellingsen is a Managing Partner at the law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP (DWT). He has practiced health law as a partner at DWT since 1990. Through his health law practice, Mr. Ellingsen also consults with non-profit hospitals on board development. Prior to joining DWT, Mr. Ellingsen was a partner with the health law boutique firm of Ellingsen, Christensen & Steinberg from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Ellingsen's health law experience includes a wide variety of health care business arrangements. Mr. Ellingsen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from the University of Washington and a Juris Doctorate with distinction from Duke University School of Law. Southern California's Law & Politics selected him as a "Super Lawyer" from 2004-2008.

Barbara Goen
Marketing Committee Co-Chair

Barbara Goen has been an enthusiastic audience member at A Noise Within for many years.

She joined the board in 2007, and heads the Marketing Committee, which is building a strategic communications plan for the company's move to Pasadena. In her professional life, she is Assistant Dean for Communications at the USC Rossier School of Education. Ms. Goen spent the majority of her career as Senior Vice President of Communications for KCET. In that capacity she was pleased to work with the William H. Keck Foundation on its support of the station's children's programming block, as well as its underwriting on the series "The Astronomers." Additionally, she was responsible for the re-branding of the station in 1998 and the on-air fundraising component, which was responsible for $4 million in budgeted revenues. Ms. Goen and her husband, David Nemer, are residents of Glendale. Ms. Goen also serves on the board of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada.
