Frequently Asked Questions

Why is A Noise Within moving?
The company has been in a temporary home, the former Masonic Temple in Glendale, for 16 of its 17 years. The company needs a permanent location that will allow it to accommodate its growing audience and subscriber base, its robust educational programs, and provide the critical production space that it has lacked. The need for a permanent facility has existed since the first production in 1991.

Why leave Glendale?
A Noise Within has worked with the leadership for years to try to find a solution to a permanent home. There have many challenges and ultimately the search was unsuccessful.

Will ticket prices go up?
We hope to keep prices even with inflation. However we plan on offering a number of deep ticket discounts in keeping with our desire to keep the theatre accessible for all.

What is the project budget?
13.3 million (70% has been raised).

Will there be parking?

Are there restaurants in the area?
Yes. There are number of restaurants within walking distance to the theatre.

Will the entire operation be in one location?
Yes the 35,000 square foot facility will accommodate the state-of-the-art theatre, classrooms, production support spaces, and administrative offices.

I love the intimacy of the current space. What will happen in the new space?
The 350 seat theatre recreates the intimacy of the current thrust with more legroom, wider seats, and a greater accessibility. You will never be more than 8 rows from the stage. The thrust stage will preserve the intimacy between the actor and audience which is an A Noise Within hallmark.

When is A Noise Within moving?
The theatre anticipates opening the new facility in Pasadena in the Fall of 2010.

What will be included in your building?

  • State-of-the-art theatre performance space with thrust stage
  • educational resource center stocked with educational materials for students and teachers
  • student classroom and performance area
  • rehearsal space
  • ample storage space for costumes, sets and props
  • workshops for building sets & costumes
  • administrative offices

Will A Noise Within affect other theatres in the area, like the Pasadena Playhouse?
The Pasadena Playhouse and Boston Court Theatre offer completely different types of programming than A Noise Within. In fact, each one fills a particular niche with their programming. New cultural venues generally bring more attention and audiences to a community, benefiting every other organization. We believe our presence will be a good thing for all of Pasadena's cultural institutions.
